Yukie Kudo was born on March 14th , 1965.
She has spent one year in the US as an AFS exchange student during high school. She then went on to study Law at University of Tokyo and graduated with LLB at the top level in 1988. Following graduation from university, she has joined J.P.Morgan to work as a corporate finance officer. After J.P. Morgan, she joined McKinsey and Co. in 1989 as a business consultant and worked both in London and Tokyo Branch.
While she was in London, she also received Master's Degree in economics from London School of Economics (L.S.E.) She has specialised in derivative pricing theories and finance with the emphasis on Black, Merton, Scholes thesis.
After returning to Japan in 1992, she has become a newscaster and journalist as an anchor for the nation wide TV network TV Asahi. She has been an anchorperson for a programme featuring international news called "CNN Day Break". Since then, she has been appearing for various programmes on NHK, BBC and Nihon TV as a newscaster, commentator and she also produces her own programme. So far she has produced and presented reports related to Uruguay Round, Lloyds of London, WTO, Asian Financial Crisis and other economic and political related themes. Her latest programme is called "Crisis Management" on Asahi New Star Channel. She quite often appears as a commentator and guest speaker for current affairs programmes.
Also as a friend of the current Japanese Princess Masako from university days, she has been interviewed by international media like BBC, NBC and CBS. Especially with BBC she made frequent appearance as a commentator regarding the Japanese pre and post war society and related themes.
While she was in London as a business consultant during the Gulf War, she has realised the inaccuracy of reports by the media and related information especially about Japan. That made her to change her career from business to journalism. She aims to be accurate and sincere to the truth and reality . She has also put a lot of energy as a committee member for the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan to ensure the accurate and journalistically correct information flow between Japan and the rest of the world.
Her recent interest lies in the direction of Japan in the 21st Century and the philosophy that she feels lacking in the current and post-war Japanese Society. Especially her current work and interest are national defence issues and establishment of the ideal Japanese identity and nationalism.
Besides her frequent TV work she often writes for periodical magazines and has her own column on nation wide newspaper. Her articles appeared recently on "Newsweek International", "Sapio", "Weekly Diamond","Bungeishunjyu"(Monthly), "Chuokouron" and "Seiron" " Shokun!" (all of the magazines except Newsweek are published in Japanese). Her book on Japanese Post War society "The Requiem for Kamikaze" was published in July, 2001.
She has produced and conducted interviews with Baroness Thatcher(former British Prime Minister), Pavarotti(world famous tenor), Yasushi Akashi, Sadako Ogata ( both for the reports on the UN), Richard Branson, George Soros , and many other prominent figures.
Her hobbies include opera, classical music and ballet. She has visited most of the major opera houses and concert halls around the world.
